Home Compost Bioplastics for different manufacturing processes
According to EN 13432, “biodegradable” means that a material degrades to more than 90 % into water, carbon dioxide and biomass after a specified time under defined temperature, oxygen and humidity conditions in the presence of microorganisms or fungi.
In Spain, shopping bags with a thickness of less than 50 microns have to be manufactured with materials that meet this standard. This includes the well-known fruit and vegetable bags. These also need a certain degree of transparency so that the exact contents can be identified and checked at the cash desk. The large Spanish supermarkets prefer home compostable materials here, even though this is not explicitly prescribed in Spanish legislation. As a branch of AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH, BIO-FED is an expert for innovative and application-oriented biocompounds. The Cologne based company BIO-FED provides with its M∙VERA® B5033 a corresponding compound that fulfils the required standard. It also has an OK compost HOME certificate.
For the injection moulding sector, BIO-FED offers a wide range of entirely or partially biobased materials. Our new special grades M∙VERA® GP1045 and GP1012 are compounds which are already certified according to OK compost HOME. These grades are almost 100 % biobased and suitable for applications such as coffee capsules, plant pots, cutlery and others – only to mention some examples.
New in the portfolio are transparent and filled compounds for thermoforming and profile extrusion. Certification for OK compost INDUSTRIAL is currently in progress. Also, an extrusion grade for monofilaments, for example for 3 D printing, is available.
The M∙VERA® grades offer high batch consistency and the compounds can be processed easily on common plastics machineries. BIO-FED is happy to support its customers from the first trials on, and also offers its services as a cooperation partner for the development of new products.
